What Is Happening In a Successful Aquaponics System

To really get a good handle on how to set up an aquaponics system, it is vitally important to understand what is happening. Aquaponics is a closed freshwater system, which means that the water does not “naturally” flow like the water in a river or lake in the wild does. This means that the system needs to be set up to create this “flow” where the water moves from the fish to the plants – and then back to the fish again.

In this closed freshwater system, fish such as tilapia or koi are kept in a holding tank or small pond where they are fed on a daily basis. Before the fish are placed in their new home, the water has to be conditioned properly using a technique called “cycling”, where fish feed is gradually added to the water to reduce the chlorine and build up the healthy bacteria we talked about earlier. Without proper cycling, the water will contain toxic levels of chlorine that may kill the fish, and since the bacteria take a few days to multiply to optimal levels, it just makes good sense to wait until the bacteria levels are high enough before introducing the fish.

The fish are then introduced into this bacterial filled environment where they will be fed daily. They will produce ammonia and solid waste by-products that will be transformed by the bacteria into nitrates, which are the preferred nutrients for the organic fruits and vegetables. High enough levels of bacteria will ensure that all of the ammonia is converted to nitrates, and that the plants have enough food to grow big and healthy. We must be careful to monitor the level of nitrates in the water, however, since weeds and unwanted plants will tend to grow in the fish tank if the nitrate levels are too high.

This is where the plants become an important part of this system. You see, if the amount of nitrates in the water is too high, then this can result in overgrowth of unwanted vegetation in the water. This is why the aquaponics system must be in balance at all times. Fortunately, these nitrates are ideal natural nutrients for plants, and they are quickly absorbed by the plant roots and used as food, thereby cleaning and filtering the water. This is also why it is so important for the water to be circulated from where the fish are – to where the plants are. Without circulation, the nitrates will quickly build where the fish are, and unwanted vegetation and weeds will grow in that area.

After adding the fish, the plants must be introduced to the home aquaponics system. The plants are the third and final piece to the aquaponics puzzle. The vegetables and fruit are grown on “grow beds”, which receive a constant stream of water (and nutrients) from the fish tank. If the system is set up properly, water can drain from the fish tanks to the grow beds and back to the fish after the plants filter and purify it.

In larger systems, it is highly recommended to have a mechanical purification filter in place that will both purify and circulate the water. This will prevent build up of fish waste that can quickly accumulate and prevent the plants from cleaning the water. Once you figure out what the right balance of fish and plants are in your system, it is really easy to maintain the system.

In fact, once this “biological balance” is achieved, all you have to do is monitor the pH levels of the water and make sure the fish get enough food each day. The system will maintain and clean itself each and every day after that, which is the reason why aquaponics has become so popular in the United States in the last 2 years.

Make a Good First Impression

It’s going to happen. It’s part of the first impression. When you first talk to someone for the first time they are going to ask you the one question that everyone asks – What do you do?

The question is not just a good conversation piece but it’s also a way to figure out if you are someone they are looking for…if you fit their life and also how you react to you your own life. The way you respond to this question could make or break their interest in you.

I used to be guilty of screwing up the first impression response. I’ve had many jobs in my life so let’s just say I was working at a doggy daycare that was essentially exhausting work with rewards. I would answer the ‘What do you do?’ question like this – “Oh, I clean up shit all day. I literally work my ass off cleaning up shit and catering to dogs.” Then I would go on to complain about the job and the headaches it came with and how little money I made for doing all the crappy work.

When I look back on this negative response it’s no wonder guys didn’t respond well to my first impression. I was complaining and negative and I really didn’t put myself in a good light. If I had been smarter I would have said “I work at a doggy daycare. It’s a great job where I get tons of exercise, first-hand insight into dog behavior, and rewarded with kisses all day. That response is much more enticing, don’t you think?

After some research I now know that there have been studies done on reactions to the first impression responses and what people are looking for from them. Basically there are three things that you will be telling the asker in your first impression through your words and actions.

1. Whether they could fall in love with you.

If you haven’t heard of love of love at first sight and lovemaps then you may want to check that out. Basically it means that there’s something about you that reminds them of something good from their past. Chances are if you are negative and whiny about yourself they you are not going to make a good first impression, and love at first sight is pretty much out the window! 2. Whether you are a confident and a passionate person

People are attracted to confidence. It’s been proven over and over again. People who are not conventionally good looking can still attract men or women by the masses if they have a high level of confidence. So if you are talking yourself down and making your life look pathetic in the first impression, then they are going to view you as not confident and a passionless person.

It’s better to make yourself look like you are right where you want to be, and as though you have many goals that you are working towards. Don’t put down anything that you do in your first impression because that shows that you are not putting any effort into your life and it’s direction. A confident person will go out and make things happen for themselves while an unsure person will sit around complaining without taking any action to move out of what they are complaining about.

3. Whether they want to talk to you anymore.

And of course if you spill out all your dirty laundry in the first impression and leave them nothing to look forward to from you then chances are they are not going to have much left to talk to you about.

You want to leave the conversation open with a piece of information that they will want to know more about. For instance, with the doggy daycare example I could have said that one of my goals in life was to open up a doggy daycare of my own so that I could run it the way I wanted it to be run. This not only would leave a conversation opening for how to open a doggy daycare, but also how I feel it should be run, and the challenges that come with opening the daycare, and – well, so many more who, what, when, where, and why questions.

The way I left the conversation before was at a dead end. I complained about my work, I told them how much I hated it, and I didn’t give any conversation bridge to what I wanted to do in life. Essentially I made myself a lovely dead end in my first impression.

So remember when it comes to making a good first impression be positive, charming, confident, passionate, and leave them a piece of conversation that will either keep the conversation going, or leave them wanting to know more about you.

If you came up empty, this is a great way to use a search engine to let you know about any new search results, blog postings or other news items with a specific name mentioned.

If after exhausting every online avenue, you still can’t find any mention of this person, it’s possible this person moved, changed names, moved out of the country or just doesn’t want to be found.

Advantages in Using HHO for Fuel As a Supplementary Fuel

There are two types of specific advantages in using a HHO for fuel system in an internal combustion engine. These advantages are:

Saving money by using less fuel consumption

Less engine wear through carbon build-up

All internal combustion engines (ICE) which run on fossil fuel have an inefficiency of extracting the full power from the fuel being used. Even the latest modern production engines can’t seem to get this right, even though they are far better than older engines. Proof to this is that all new gasoline engine come equipped with a catalytic converter from the factory as a mandatory legislation, because of this fuel wastage. Unburned fuel, or partially burned fuel causes toxic waste which pollutes the same air we breathe. If the gasoline fuel was to burn off completely at 100 percent, there will be no hydrocarbon fuel (made up of hydrogen and carbon), meaning that the oxygen in the air combines with the hydrogen to form water and with the carbon to become carbon dioxide.

Incomplete Fuel Combustion

When the fuel combustion isn’t fully burned, some of the carbon atoms only combine with one oxygen atom rather than two. This forms a highly poisonous gas known as carbon monoxide (CO). Sometimes carbon atoms may remain bonded together and these carbon atoms might also include hydrogen atoms in the mix, because of this atom bonding attachment. This results in hydrocarbon molecules coming out of the exhaust’s tailpipe. These unburned hydrocarbons react with nitrogen oxides, which is another pollutant from fuel combustion process. This produces the photochemical smog in the presence of sunlight, which causes us lung irritation. The incomplete fuel combustion of diesel produces soot because carbon atoms can also remain stuck to one another, having few or no hydrogen atoms bonded together.

Saving Money by Using Less Fuel Consumption

This incomplete fuel combustion is wasted energy, as well as being a pollutant and ultimately causes us money from not utilizing the whole amount of the fuel consumption. Adding HHO for fuel as an additive to the engine’s primary fuel will eliminate this fuel wastage by making the fuel burn completely. As the engine is designed to work with these fuel inefficiencies, the engine gains more power than necessary, which means that the primary fuel can be reduced (lean fuel setting) giving out the same, or slightly increased power output.

Less Engine Wear through Carbon Build-up

All internal combustion engines will have an accumulating carbon layer caused by the fuel combustion process. This carbon has a grinding effect on any moving parts, which scratches the highly accurate machined surfaces of the components. Some of this carbon is diluted through the engine’s oil during the combustion cycle, passing between the fine tolerances of the piston rings and bores. The oil filter usually captures any non dissolved carbon particles, together with the fine granulated metal and alloy particles caused by friction of rubbing materials. Unfortunately not all carbon deposits stop at the designated oil filter, thus managing to make it through. This is why the oil blackens after extensive use, and should be changed frequently.

Installing a HHO for fuel system not only helps in the complete fuel combustion process, but it also has an extended benefit of steam-cleaning the engine’s internals through the process. This is achieved because upon burning the HHO gas (also known as hydroxy gas) the resultant byproduct is hot dry steam which cleanses out any carbon deposits from the combustion chamber, all the way through the tailpipe.

On older engines with less advanced fuel atomization technology and less tight manufacturer clearances, it was custom to decarbonize the engine’s cylinder head every two to four years, especially on vehicles using very short distances to cover their journeys. This meant that the engine’s top was stripped and manually cleaned from these carbon deposits. Nowadays we have special carbon-cleaning equipment which can be hooked up to the vehicle’s engine to steam-clean the whole engine without removing any engine parts. This system works on the same principle of HHO for fuel system, where water is converted to hydroxy gas from the water electrolysis process. Some portable machines even use the vehicle’s own electrical system to generate this gas, while stationary machines will have a built-in power supply unit.

HHO for Fuel System Advantages

The most significant advantage of using a HHO for fuel system is as fuel saving device. One must not forget that whoever uses such a system is also contributing positively for repairing the damage caused to our climate change. Many auto manufacturers are on a constant R&D program finding alternative fuel energy resources to put into production. Hybrid and electrical vehicles are typical examples. Ongoing research is being done on hydrogen fuel only vehicles too. Unfortunately these vehicles are too expensive for normal citizens and few countries and cities have hydrogen stations installed. Most hybrid engine systems have a conventional engine which also runs on electrical power. The only hybrid exception is the BMW Hybrid 7 which uses its own gasoline engine and adapted it to run on liquid hydrogen.

No internal engine alterations are required

Engine becomes more power efficient and runs smoother

This conversion will pay for itself within a year or two from the fuel savings

Can be easily removed and installed on another vehicle

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Once upon a time there was a little girl who had a dream. A dream where she would grow up, marry a handsome gentleman, live in a beautiful home with a white picket fence around it, and have two or three children of her own. At least that is what she thought.

Then the day came when she met her so-called prince. He was charming, good looking, and seemed to share the same dreams that she did. Her parents really liked him, all of her friends liked him, and he seemed to have everything she ever wanted. Life was working out just as she had planned. She was more than ready to start living her dream. When the time came, they got married; expecting to live happily ever after.

The marriage went well for the first few months. Just as with any marriage, they had their disagreements and disappointments, but life was still sending her those promises. They bought a house together, soon after she got pregnant, and all the details that she wanted were falling into place. She was happy beyond belief.

That is, until the changes started happening. He began to act out, talking to her disrespectfully, yelling and throwing tantrums. He told her that the pressures of life were taking a toll on him; excusing himself from his actions. She didn’t understand what was happening, but she knew she was going to stand by her man no matter what. She was in it for the long haul.

What she didn’t realize was that life’s pressures weren’t necessarily the only reason for the change in his behavior. The abusive nature was also ingrained deeply into the core of who he really was-an abuser. He had won her heart; and now, since she was tied into the relationship with marriage, mortgage, and children, he could start to show his true colors.

Progressively his behavior got worse. Not only did he abuse her emotionally and spiritually, he started abusing her physically. Unfortunately, now they have two children who witness it all; leaving the young woman feeling hopeless with nowhere to turn. His threats were strengthened by telling her that if she did leave, he would make her pay in some way; he would take the children, hurt her even more, and even threatened to kill her if she tried to leave.

Think this doesn’t happen? Think again. Maybe abusive relationships start out with a charm and grace; only to end up with someone causing disrespect and heartfelt pain.

Have the attitude that you will never tolerate disrespect or abuse from your partner. If it happens to you, stop it immediately. Be aware of what is going on and stand up for yourself. If he is belittling you, let him know that you won’t put up with that behavior–ever. If he physical hurts you, get away from him. Teach him that his unkind and unjust behavior will never be tolerated.

Depending on what is happening, the outcome is the same. Zero tolerance. That means you take the position that whatever transpired, it will never happen again or there will be consequences; then again it may mean that you are leaving for good. Once you allow yourself to be disrespected, the situation usually develops into worse mistreatment. Stop it in its tracks. However the story ends, remember that you are taking a stand for yourself–and any children involved.

When you find that one true love, remember that one or both of you could change in some way. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. That doesn’t mean you have to be untrusting of your mate; only aware and confident that you know you will be okay if something happens. Be honest with yourself on what you are getting from your mate, and remind yourself about what you deserve–love, kindness, and respect.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you, or someone you know, are dealing with the pain of domestic violence, get help. The situation isn’t helpless, and neither are you. You have the strength and courage to rise up and take a stand.
